Pencil Portraits and Photography

Hello. I am an artist and photographer living and working in West Yorkshire and I specialise in portraiture and landscape photography.

For my portraits I work in pencil, from A5 to A2 in size. My style of drawing is to include large shadows across the subject matter, throwing some features into relief, while making others prominent. I think this is the best way to give a real sense of depth and interest. I work from photographs when completing a drawing to make it easier for the subject and I get a fixed frame of reference to draw from. There is something uniquely satisfying about producing a picture of a person and seeing their reaction to the final product. I like capturing more than just a likeness, hopefully something emotive and evocative about the person also comes across.
